My trip to Bristol didn’t start off on the best of foot, having spent two hours on the M5 on a bank holiday who is not the best. Now I had been warned that there was a zone in Bristol but at the time when I made the decision to travel to Bristol I didn’t realise what kind of zone and what that meant. I was staying in the heart of that zone on spike island. And having a 5 tonne tag axle 2012 motorhome with zero emissions according to DVLA (driver and vehicle licencing agency for our friends over seas) I thought I would be alright.
So for me to enter this zone or be in this zone at all, with a diesel euro 5 compliant vehicle and over 3.5 tonnes my NOX number is 0.180, but for Bristol’s clear zone they require 0.125. So it is £100, but I’m staying for a week so make that £200.
I can’t believe, sorry I can believe that the UK is adding more and more of these zones to cities which means that people from the outside are less and less likely to come into the city. This is just my view as somebody that drives a large motorhome.
On the plus side between the rain we had some beautiful sunshine, and being by the River Avon really helped, make sure to checkout the trip I took between Spike Island and Pill by push bike it’s a very scenic route and well worth it.
