Sometimes the best rides aren’t about distance or speed – they’re about exploring, soaking up a place, and enjoying the ride. This gentle loop around Minehead did exactly that.
We started from the campsite and pedalled along the main road into town, aiming for Minehead Harbour. The route is mostly flat, perfect for warming up and watching the town come to life. The harbour itself is a gem – fishing boats bobbing in the water, the smell of salt and seaweed in the air, and the historic lifeboat station perched on the edge.
From there, we continued along Quay West, hugging the coastline. It’s a peaceful stretch with wide views across the bay, and the gentle hum of waves on the shingle beach as a backdrop.
Next came the only real climb of the ride – a push up to Greenaleigh Upper Road, a steep but short hill that rewards you with views back over Minehead and across the Bristol Channel. The road winds around the hillside with hedges and sea glimpses all the way, giving you that satisfying feeling of being just above it all.
After a brief stop to admire the views, we descended back down into town and rolled along the seafront promenade. Families were enjoying the beach, dogs were chasing waves, and ice cream vans were parked and ready. It’s a feel-good end to any ride.
Finally, we cruised back to the campsite, legs stretched and spirits lifted from a simple but satisfying loop.
