Adventure details for: Cycling West Runton to Cromer and Back

Took a short cycle ride from West Runton to beach very close to West Runton then headed down along the main road to Cromer.

Cromer, a delightful seaside town on the northern coast of Norfolk, England, is renowned for its iconic Victorian pier, fresh crab delicacies, and rich cultural history.

The Cromer Pier, an elegant iron structure extending into the North Sea, is a symbol of the town. It houses the Pavilion Theatre, one of the only end-of-the-pier theatres in Europe, known for its traditional summer variety show. Fishing enthusiasts often line the sides of the pier, casting lines in hopes of catching the area’s famous Cromer crabs.

The crabs, a culinary treasure, are central to Cromer’s identity, with the Cromer Crab and Lobster Festival held annually, celebrating the town’s maritime heritage and vibrant culinary scene. Cromer’s seafront is dotted with family-run cafes and fishmongers selling these succulent crustaceans.

Cromer is also rich in history. The Cromer Museum vividly presents the town’s past, while the magnificent Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, with the tallest church tower in Norfolk, provides an insight into the town’s architectural legacy. The town is famous for its “Cromer Forest Bed,” a geological stratum bearing prehistoric evidence, including the discovery of a nearly one-million-year-old hominin footprint in 2013.

Close by, the North Norfolk cliffs offer spectacular views and are home to a variety of seabirds, making the town a hotspot for birdwatching. The thriving artistic scene, picturesque landscapes, and warm community make Cromer a truly unique destination, offering a serene retreat for all visitors.
